New Delhi: The Department of Food and Public Distribution has fixed the quota for the sale of rice from Food Corporation of India (FCI) stocks under the Open Market Sale Scheme (OMSS) for the 2026-27 season.

According to the Department of Food, 25 lakh tonnes of rice (with 25% broken grains) will be sold to private parties, cooperative unions, and cooperative federations through e-auctions. This stock will also be available to small traders, entrepreneurs, and individuals.

Similarly, under the Rice Milling Transformation Scheme, a quota of 20 lakh tonnes has been fixed for the sale of Custom Milled Rice (CMR)—containing 10% broken grains—to private traders in the open market. Additionally, a quota of 55 lakh tonnes has been set for the sale of the remaining broken rice (tukdi) produced under the same scheme.

A quota of 16 lakh tonnes has been fixed for sale to state governments and provincial government agencies (valid until October 31, 2026), and a quota of 32 lakh tonnes for community kitchens (valid from November 1, 2026, to June 30, 2027). Participation in e-auctions is not required for purchasing this rice; it can be bought directly from the nearest FCI depot.

A total quota of 72 lakh tonnes of rice has been allocated to distilleries for ethanol production, with sales scheduled between November 1, 2025, and October 31, 2026.

Information regarding the rice quota allocated for sale under the 'Bharat' brand through central cooperative organizations—such as NAFED, NCCF, and Kendriya Bhandar (for retail sale)—will be provided in due course.

As for wheat, the quota allocation will be announced only after a decision regarding the OMSS policy for it is finalized. The reserve prices for both rice and wheat have already been determined.
