Mustard prices rise due to low supply and strong demand
New Delhi. During the week of July 11–17, a bullish trend was observed across the entire oilseed and oil market, resulting in a price increase of ₹200–300 per quintal for mustard. In some areas, the rise was as much as ₹400–500 per quintal.
42% Condition Mustard
The price of 42% condition mustard rose by ₹300 per quintal in both Delhi and Jaipur, reaching ₹8,000 and ₹8,300 per quintal, respectively.
Mustard
Significant price increases for average quality mustard were recorded: ₹540 per quintal in Haryana's Adampur mandi, ₹400 in Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior mandi, and ₹800 in Rajasthan's Bundi mandi. In other major markets across the country, mustard prices rose by ₹200–300 per quintal. The Minimum Support Price (MSP) for mustard has been set at ₹6,200 per quintal this season, whereas wholesale market prices are ruling well above this level.
Arrivals
At the national level, average daily mustard arrivals have dropped to 2.50–3.00 lakh bags (50 kg each), while demand remains very strong. Traders and oil millers are showing keen interest in purchasing the crop. Government agencies have nearly exhausted their stocks, resulting in negligible intervention in the market.
Mustard Oil / Kachi Ghani
Driven by the sharp rise in mustard prices, the rates for mustard oil (expeller and Kachi Ghani) also surged by ₹6–7 per kg. In Delhi and Charkhi Dadri, prices increased by ₹60 per 10 kg, reaching ₹1,650 per 10 kg. In Alwar, the price of both varieties of mustard oil rose by ₹70 per 10 kg, while in Bharatpur, an increase of ₹60 pushed the price of *Kachchi Ghani* oil to ₹1,680 and expeller oil to ₹1,660 per 10 kg.
Mustard Oil Cake (DOC)
Similarly, a significant rise was observed in the prices of mustard oil cake and DOC. Demand for Indian rapeseed meal remains strong in China.
