Pea market stable; price rise expected due to limited supply and upcoming demand

Buying interest in peas remains subdued due to sluggish sales, resulting in price stability today. However, prospects for a market rally appear strong given the limited availability and anticipated festive demand.

The likelihood of large-scale pea supplies arriving from Russia before March is currently considered low, which could strain the availability of imported peas in the coming months.

Meanwhile, stocks at ports are steadily declining, with the availability of Canadian peas at Kolkata port remaining virtually negligible. Another positive factor for the market is that stocks of old domestic peas are nearly exhausted. Additionally, demand for seeds is expected to rise as sowing for the new domestic pea crop begins in October, potentially creating further demand pressure on available supplies.

Domestic demand for peas is likely to improve with the onset of the festive season and Diwali shopping. While the current sales slump is limiting price gains, buying activity could strengthen—and prices find support—as festive demand picks up and the availability of imported stock diminishes.
